>> Revising your essay

It may seem obvious, but if you don’t re-read your essay before you hand it in, it probably won’t be much good.

If you’re writing on a computer, it’s always best to print it off and read it on paper, rather than on the screen. Read it through and think about whether it fits in which the ‘three Cs’.

Coherence – does each thought make sense in the order that it’s in, or should it be somewhere else in the paragraph? Every sentence ought to follow the preceeding sentence in a logical sequence which makes a coherent argument.

Clarity – you know exactly what you want to say before you write it down, but your readers don’t. So re-read your essays to make sure they make sense.

Concentration – make sure that everything in your essay contributes to the essay. Avoid digressions. When you’re writing, a lot of irrelevant thoughts will probably creep in – revising is your chance to get rid of these.
