Dr Lucy Allen, Newnham

Biographical Information

I'm an affiliated lecturer and Director of Studies at Newnham College. Prior to this year, I was a Teaching Associate for the Faculty of English, and before that I completed my PhD at the University of York, my MSt at Oxford and my BA here in Cambridge. I primarily teach for the medieval papers (Part I, Paper 3 and Part II, Papers 5 and 6), and supervise dissertations in these areas.

Research Interests

My research concentrates on the English literature of the fourteenth, fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, especially Chaucer's works and works influenced by Chaucer, including some of Shakespeare's plays and poems. My current book, Female Desire in Chaucer and Middle English Romance (under contract with Boydell and Brewer), explores the disruptive literary role of female same-sex desire and gender nonconformity in these texts.
