Research Interests:
Sixteenth and seventeenth century English culture, particularly the work of Spenser and Milton, and the tangled relationship between literature and what we now call philosophy, medicine, and experimental science. Accounts of the senses, the human body and the material world in this period. Literature and the visual arts. The development of religious identities. Theories of metaphor and allegory. Contemporary aesthetic and moral thought, especially the influence of Hegel.
