Research Interests:

The language of literature in the early nineteenth century; the transition from 'romantic' to 'Victorian'; the early Victorian novel; literary responses to demographic change in the period 1800-1850; the aesthetic within history. Publications include Vision and Disenchantment: Blake's Songs and Wordsworth's Lyrical Ballads and Charlotte Brontë: the Imagination in History; and editions of Wuthering Heights, The Professor, and of Charlotte Brontë's last five Angrian novelettes.

Areas of Graduate Supervision:
