Ooh, this one almost caught me, as I’ve just done an order with Amazon.com (not .co.uk). I was like, ‘Dude. Wait. What?’
New scam. Goes like this:
Your order has been successfully canceled. For your reference, here’s a summary of your order:
You just canceled order #<blah>
followed by a link to a web site that definitely isn’t Amazon.com ‘for more information’. Everything’s spelled correctly (1) and it basically looks legit, apart from the web site, which I suspect the is rife with something nasty. Also, if you get one of these, the order number in the subject doesn’t match the order number in the body. And there was no list of what’d been cancelled, which is odd. And it said ‘Dear customer’ instead of using my name. Um, so maybe ‘legit’ is pushing it a bit, but it still took me a good 30 seconds to work it out. :)
(1) Canceled is spelled with one L in American English (and enrolled with two… so, I guess it all evens out, really).
