Frequently Asked Questions

Passwords

How do I access Reading Lists and other non-public sections of the Faculty web site if I’m not connected to the university network?

Access to the Reading Lists and other non-public areas of the Faculty web site is restricted to those with a Raven user name and password. All students and staff members should have a Raven password. For students and staff who started at the University after February 2014, your Raven, Hermes, and Desktop Services passwords are combined into one UIS password.

I’ve forgotten my email/Raven/PWF password. Can the Faculty Computer Officer reset it for me?

The short answer is: “Maybe.” If you are primarily affiliated with The Faculty of English according to Information Services, I can reset your UIS password. A UIS password is one password that works in your email, Raven and on the Desktop Services machines. Please be aware that if you currently use three different passwords for email/Hermes, Raven, and MCS/PWF and we change it for you, it will automatically become a UIS password and change all of your passwords to the same one.

Is there wireless access in the English Faculty?

Yes. As of September 2012, the Faculty has wireless access throughout the public areas of the Faculty Building.  You should be able to access the Universiry’s wireless systems (UniOfCam – formerly Lapwing – and Eduroam) in all seminar rooms including the board room, the Social Space, in all Academic corridors, and throughout the library.
