One very important way of improving your own writing is to read how others have written about similar subjects. There are plenty of essays on the Converse website that you can look at to get some ideas of different styles.

Read through them carefully and think about what features of their style you admire, find confusing, or irritating. What is it precisely that creates that impression: is it vocabulary, sentence structure, or tone? Then try out some of these writing styles for yourself.

See your homework as a chance to experiment without worrying too much about your exams; don’t be afraid to try something new and then discuss how successful it is with your teacher.

And always remember - a good essay is one which communicates your ideas to the reader, not length or esoteric jargon or improbability
