Biographical Information
I am a former Vice-Chancellor's Scholar, now Postdoctoral Affiliate, with wide-ranging research interests in the relationship between poetic and scholarly labour, as well as in the languages and literatures of the Australian continent. Sometimes, these interests come together in my own writing: I was recently awarded the John Kinsella and Tracy Ryan Prize for my poem/prose commentary 'Nullarbor', a meditation on the conflict of First Nations and Settler placenames. I have also occasionally written – on colonial literature, short prose forms, and cultural geography – for the Times Literary Supplement.
In my teaching work, I supervise undergraduates for the English Tripos Part IA, 'Practical Criticism and Critical Practice', as well as Part II, 'The Ethical Imagination' and 'History & Theory of Literary Criticism'. Previously, I read English as an undergraduate at Magdalen College, Oxford.
