Biographical Information

I am a Vice-Chancellor's Scholar with a broad research interest in the relationship between poetic and scholarly labour, especially the teaching practices and habits of research found among scholar-poets. I am also interested in the languages and literatures of the Australian continent. Sometimes, these interests come together in my own writing: I was awarded the John Kinsella and Tracy Ryan Prize in 2022 for my poem/prose commentary 'Nullarbor', a meditation on the conflict of First Nations and Settler place names.

In my own teaching work I have supervised undergraduates for the English Tripos Part IA, 'Practical Criticism and Critical Practice', as well as Part II, 'The Ethical Imagination' and 'History & Theory of Literary Criticism'. Previously, I read English as an undergraduate at Magdalen College, Oxford, and as a graduate at University College London, where I was awarded the John Oliver Hobbes Memorial Scholarship in Modern English Literature.
