Dissertation Title: Fear Itself': Modernism and Horror

Biographical Information

I am a first year PhD candidate researching the theoretical and aesthetic interests shared by High Modernism and Weird Fiction. My doctorate seeks to develop the affective turn in contemporary modernist studies by drawing on the affective interests valued by Weird Fiction. I consequently look to contemporary examples of the New Weird in both literature and film to identify the relationship that exists between modernism's legacies and the legacies of Weird Fiction. Originally from Sydney, Australia, my Masters thesis, ‘J. M. Coetzee and Modernist Cinema: Viewing the legacy of modernism through film’, received First Class Honours. I was also awarded the University Medal by Macquarie University.
