Dissertation Title:

Movement Notation and Poetry in the 1970s-80s

Biographical Information

I read English at Cambridge for my BA, and Modern Japanese Studies at Oxford for my MSc. Between the two, I spent a year writing poetry on a Harper-Wood Studentship awarded by St. John's College, and two years researching Japanese contemporary dance in Tokyo on a Daiwa Scholarship. My PhD considers movement notation and poetic language in the 1970s-80s, with a focus on Hijikata Tatsumi, Samuel Beckett, and Yvonne Rainer. It also considers works by Vaslav Nijinsky, Merce Cunningham, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Lucinda Childs, and Trisha Brown.
