'Rossetti, Fantasy, and Narcissicism'

Poetry, pornography, portraiture or packaging. Rossetti's studies of females after 1860 have been variously described. This is an attempt to locate them alongside other paintings using emblematic devices, and in the context of Rossetti's own observations in verse and prose on the representation of figures, human and divine. What emerges is a privileged position in his sexual pathology close to narcissism and ruled by fantasy.
