MANUSCRIPT IMAGES

For copyright in these manuscript images, please see the Acknowledgments page.

The manuscript images presented below are ordered roughly chronologically, allowing easy reference to particular sub-periods and styles of hand (note, however, that no attempt has been made to distinguish manuscripts on the basis of secretary (set, facile) or italic hands). Where possible, a number of images from a given manuscript or hand have been grouped together, allowing for more concentrated work on difficult or particularly relevant materials.

Each manuscript image will appear alongside a workspace where the student may attempt a transcription or take notes. If it seems preferable for any reason to take a transcription by hand, the frame containing the manuscript image may be easily resized by dragging the frame's bottom bar to the bottom of the window. No supplementary information is available for these manuscript images; they are intended as occasions for further practice. Anyone wishing more supportive and intensive explanation/exploration of such manuscripts is advised to refer to the course lessons section of the site.
