On June 17, in advance of the International Spenser Society conference in Dublin, Thomas Herron will lead a 2-3 hour walking tour of downtown Dublin. Tentative highlights include 1) stroll across the grounds of Trinity College Dublin; 2) the portrait of Surrey’s “Faire Geraldine” in the National Gallery of Ireland; 3) a visit to the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland, a Georgian house with Dublin’s only 17th-century garden and building compound intact; 4) crossing “Stephen’s, that is, my green” and view of Newman House, where Gerard Manley Hopkins taught and James Joyce studied; 5) bog bodies and an Irish mantle in the National Museum; 6) a concluding visit to the heart of medieval Dublin and Christ Church Cathedral to see monuments to Sir Henry Sidney and the dead children of Arthur, Lord Grey (admission charged for entry to CCC).  All are welcome. No reservations required. Please meet at 11:00 AM just outside the gates of Trinity College Dublin (facing College Green). Tour will leave at 11:10.  Lunch as-you-go (perhaps fish-and-chips near CCC).
