24.02.14 : ‘In town it was very urban…’

In this session we will look at poems by John Ashbery, George Oppen, Frank O’Hara, Eileen Myles and Cole Swensen.

We will consider how each of the poems makes use of direct observation as well as remembered, imagined apparently extraneous historical or found material.

We will be considering how to write our own poems in response by using historical and archival material on the city of Cambridge.
