In this paper, I will examine the many identities of King Arthur in medieval Britain. In particular, I will look at the contrasting claims of Welsh and English identity, and what they could mean to audiences who heard stories of the legendary king. Touching on the intersection of history and myth, and based on the stories people tell themselves and each other, I will suggest that one of the reasons people have never stopped writing about King Arthur is that he is an inherently flexible character.
