Abstract: I open by questioning the efficacy and ethics of ontologically siloed exclusive ways of knowing and belonging in the university. The concept of extraction gains multiple meanings through an analysis of the corporate university's self-serving but otherwise vacuous gestures toward diversity, equity and inclusion while maintaining financial ties to fossil fuels. This lecture acts as an introduction to my project on the political ecologies of contemporary indigenous and black environmental art practices.
