Professor Leonard Barkan (Princeton) will give a talk & reading titled:

I Am the Subject of My Own Book: A Case for Scholarship in the First Person

Leonard Barkan, Professor Emeritus from Princeton University who has published books in the fields of English, Comparative Literature, Art History, and Classics, has recently published 'Reading Shakespeare Reading Me', in which he practices what has been called autocriticism, interpreting Shakespeare via his own life and interpreting his own life via Shakespeare. He will speak about the thrills and dangers of this first-person practice, and he will also read from an as yet unpublished work that he describes as "Reading Shakespeare Reading Me without Shakespeare".
