'World Literature and Atrocity': a Lecture by Professor Bruce Robbins

Bruce Robbins is Old Dominion Foundation Professor in the Humanities at Columbia University. Some of his books include: 'The Beneficiary' (Duke UP, 2017), 'Perpetual War: Cosmopolitanism from the Viewpoint of Violence' (Duke UP, 2012), 'Upward Mobility and the Common Good: Toward a Literary History of the Welfare State' (Princeton UP, 2007), 'Feeling Global: Internationalism in Distress' (NYU P, 1999), 'Secular Vocations: Intellectuals, Professionalism, Culture' (Verso, 1993) and 'The Servant's Hand: English Fiction from Below' (Duke UP, 1993). His most recent books, 'Atrocity: A Literary History' (2025), and 'Criticism and Politics: A Polemical Introduction' (2022), both from Stanford University Press, have continued his ongoing work on intellectuals, world fiction, and representations of violence.
