Judith E. Wilson Writing Studio: Contemporary Writing Group
These practice-based writing seminars are a continuation from last term’s highly successful workshop / seminars which offered introductory approaches to different modes of writing in response to questions of space, place and site. Each session will involve students in the practice and discussion of a range of traditions and methodologies for writing. As well as considering possibilities of traditional verse form and lyric writing we will also explore the writing of space, place and site through cut-ups, chance and procedural writing, durational writing, performance, conceptual, sonic and visual poetics.
Students don’t need to have any experience or familiarity with these modes of writing before attending but a willingness to experiment with different forms of practice will be a real advantage. The seminars will present a range of contemporary and historical writings alongside critical and textual materials which participants will be invited to discuss and to use as a starting point for their own writing, or collaborative poetic practice. Site visits in and around Cambridge will offer opportunities to consider writing in relation to further geographies, locations and research environments across the city.
