India Oswin convenes Between Word and Image on 30 November, a symposium and collaborative poetry performance with PoetArtist Paula Claire celebrating sixty years of concrete poetry in Cambridge

On Saturday 30th November 2024, India Oswin (a PhD candidate at Trinity College) is convening ‘Between Word and Image: New Perspectives on Concrete Poetry and Women’s Visual Poetics’, a hybrid symposium and collaborative poetry performance in the Faculty of English. Coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the first international exhibition of concrete and kinetic poetry, held in St Catharine’s in 1964, this event celebrates the ongoing legacy of avant-garde poetics in Cambridge.

The event will feature a keynote address from Emeritus Professor of History of Art Stephen Bann (University of Bristol) and a performance by internationally renowned British PoetArtist Paula Claire. A panel with scholars from Cambridge and abroad will assess new directions in the study of concrete and visual poetics, focusing particularly on the contributions of female artists and poets.
