Vanishing Landscapes combines nature writing and social history to tell the story of how we became modern people, alienated from the landscape. The book describes seven plants we once lived among and the seven social and economic changes that separated us from them. It re-imagines how we once perceived ourselves and nature, and searches for a way back to life in the landscape.
