Cam FM – Radio Drama Workshops from 6 October – 3 November 2018

Cam FM are holding a series of radio drama workshops at the Judith E Wilson Drama Studio, Faculty of English, West Road Cambridge.   An opportunity to develop your acting and voice skills and to learn more about (and get involved in) radio drama.  For further details please contact Will J. Wood – speech@camfm.co.uk

Through Dark Eyes, 13 October (3-5Pm)
Hester is a middle-aged Art History lecturer with a difference: she’s completely blind. When she’s contacted by Grace, a student and admirer of her work who is also beginning to lose her sight, the two form a close bond. But, over time friendship develops into obsession and as more secrets are revealed, Hester and Grace’s relationship gradually spirals out of control. Full of Hitchcock-style suspense, Through Dark Eyes by Iris Pearson is an atmospheric new radio play which takes full advantage of the radio format; asking the audience to enter the sightless world of the protagonist. This workshop is designed to allow actors to develop their voice skills and consider the advantages and challenges of working with radio. In particular we will be focusing on producing tone, analyzing character, communicating intimacy between characters, and creating a setting. Through this process we will also be looking to cast the roles of Hester, Grace, Dad, and Interrogator, however, the session will be fairly informal and no experience is required!

Willow House Recordings, 29 October (7-9pm)
Calling all actors: The Willow House Recordings is holding Voice Acting Workshops/Auditions for this 2 part Radio play, to be broadcast this term on CamFM. Taking inspiration from series such as Fear on 4, or The Man in Black, this Thriller centres around an investigation into ghostly sights at the eponymous Willow House. Quiet yet intense, we are looking for voice actors to help us bring this script to life. The workshop will involve several exercises aimed at developing a naturalistic voice acting style, and the channeling of emotion through pitch, tone, volume and pacing. There is absolutely no experience required for this project, we only ask for a willingness to experiment and passion for creating quality drama. Looking forward to seeing you there!

My Aubrey My Emily, 3 November (3-5pm)
“In the beginning was the word. And the word was ‘donkey’ ”. Are you interested in acting? Do you prefer to do it with your face hidden? Then this is for you! Two disenfranchised twin sisters, whose lives can’t help but become intertwined. Aubrey, a misanthrope, hides from the world in her one bedroom flat. Emily is a near-perpetually out of work actress, inept at dealing with the real world.  The chaos starts when Emily suddenly moved into Aubrey’s flat. But before long, she begins to drift into every area of her life. We’ll be running a voice acting workshop where we engage with this exciting new play. We’ll do work on character, looking at how a character can become identifiable by their voice alone, and implementing this to My Aubrey, My Emily.   We’ll also look at more general voice acting development, working to do some quick analysis of the script, and turning this into performance technique.  In the second half of the workshop, we’ll be CASTING THE SHOW! It’s a double whammy of exciting opportunity, and we can’t wait to see you there!
