Sarah Dillon joins presenter Matthew Sweet, fellow academic David Hering, and filmmaker Daniel Bird on BBC Radio 3’s Free Thinking (1st February 2024) to discuss the film that some have called the best science fiction film ever made: Andrej Zulawski’s epic On the Silver Globe. Zulawski (1940-2016) studied cinema in France and became known for art-house films working with actresses including Romy Schneider, Isabelle Adjani and Sophie Marceau. On the Silver Globe was shut down by the Polish government after Zulawski started making it in 1977, but was finally finished years later (although not as he originally intended it) and premiered at the 1988 Cannes Film Festival.
