After running a couple of pilot days last year, we have decided that the Faculty will run A Level coursework days as our standard offer to schools requesting a visit. These will take place during the weeks that Cambridge terms have finished but schools are still in, and priority will be given to schools that meet our widening participation targets. Students will get the chance to access resources in our library that would not be available to them in schools. In addition, they will have the opportunity to visit a college and to get an insight into the English course here at Cambridge and what is involved in the application process. They will also have a class, led by a PhD student, introducing them to practical criticism, but if there are any teaching officers or researchers who would like to be involved please get in touch by emailing outreach@english.cam.ac.uk. Thanks to the EFL team for supporting this and hopefully it will prove to be something that is highly valued by the students and teachers that attend.
