Dr. Hannah Lucas, Newby Trust Research Fellow at Newnham College, has been awarded a prestigious Research Fellowship by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The AvH Foundation funds outstanding postdoctoral researchers from around the world to conduct research at any academic institution in Germany.
Dr. Lucas will take up the Fellowship from October 2025, jointly affiliated with the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science and the Technische Universität Berlin, working with the research group, ‘Experience in the Premodern Sciences of Soul & Body ca. 800-1650’. Her project will investigate modes of devotional reading and attention in late medieval literature, tracing connections between medieval hermeneutic models and modern literary approaches to chart a new history of literary methods extending back to the centuries before the Reformation.
