• Josefin Holmstrom is working on a thesis on Anglo-American poets associated with Italy in the 1860s, with a particular focus on Emily Dickinson, Arthur Hugh Clough, and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Her research interests include transatlanticism, periodical culture, the American Civil War and the Risorgimento. In her native Sweden she is active as a freelance critic and essayist. Her first novel Antarktis was published by Norstedts in 2013.

  • Kristen Treen is a Wolfson Scholarship PhD student working on a thesis which examines the impact of the American Civil War’s material culture upon literary form and cultural formation from 1861 to the early twentieth century. Authors central to her project include Walt Whitman, Henry James, Herman Melville, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Elizabeth Stuart Phelps, Mary Noailles Murfree, William Dean Howells, and Stephen Crane; objects central to it include battlefield souvenirs, broken domestic objects and architectures, and public statuary.
