Festival of Ideas 20th October 2018 – Futurist Feminism

FUTURIST FEMINISM:LIVE-ACTION CHOREOGRAPHY

Cambridge Festival of Ideas

Saturday 20 October: 3:00pm – 5:00pm

Judith E. Wilson Drama Studio, Faculty of English, 9 West Road, CB3 9DP

Désirée Ballantyne, former Soloist with English National Ballet, and scholars from the English Department will explore movement responses to the feminist dialogue between two key figures in Modernism: Mina Loy and Valentine de Saint-Point.

Readings from Mina Loy’s Feminist Manifesto (1914) and Valentine de Saint-Point’s poetry will be used as inspiration for a choreographic exploration of how language shapes movement. Part performance lecture, part live-action choreographic creation, music, poetry and audience feedback will be used to create a new dance work on the day.
